Florida Vacations Are More Than Just Disney

By: Caterina Christakos

Most people think Florida vacations are just about Disney World and admittedly the theme parks are one of our main attractions. In addition to Disney world and Epcot Center and MGM, now Hollywood studios, and Blizzard Beach we have Sea World, for aquatic lovers, Bush Gardens for roller coaster enthusiasts and two character inspired theme parks by Universal Studios.

Want to swim with dolphins? Book ahead and swim with a dolphin at Discovery Cove. Or head down south and swim with them right out in the ocean. Or if you are into super water slides, try Aquatic. Just make sure to get in early as they do close they gates as soon as they reach capacity.

And did I mention we are even getting our own Hogsmead, from Harry Potter, in one of the Universal parks? So yes theme parks are big down here.

But that is not all that Florida has to offer. We have some of the most famous beaches in the world from Daytona, for surfers, to Sanibel Island for those who prefer to take things at a slower pace. The Florida coasts are absolutely gorgeous with miles and miles of sandy beaches. And if you are in the move for some Latin flare, head down to Miami. South beach rocks with amazing clubs for every type of music you could ask for. And as you stroll the beach at night you can hear live music by some of the world's most famous guitarists.

And did I mention the food? Everything from world famous restaurants to hole in the wall mouth watering ethnic cuisines can be found here. From one of the most famous Italian restaurants in the world in Orlando, aka Christinis Restaurant, to down home cuban cuisine and eye poppingly large crab legs in Miami Florida at Joe's Stone Crab, to home made key lime pies from Key West, your taste buds will be dancing with delight.

Want to stay in a resort that looks like it came straight out of a Bronte novel? Check out the Breakers resort in West Palm. Or how about a Hawaiian feeling hotel in the heart of Coconut Grove that sports huge hot tubs in every room? Check in to the Mayfair Resort in the Grove. Or perhaps you like quirkier hotels? Then try the Peabody in Orlando, where ducks actually room in the penthouse and take a daily stroll out to see the guests.

As you can see, Florida has a lot to offer besides Mickey Mouse and his pals. Pick the activity on your Florida vacations and I am sure you will be able to find it somewhere in this amazing state.
