Choosing a Summer Vacation Rental That's Right for You

By: Chad Rutt

In this time of tightened budgets for everyone, choosing a summer vacation rental that's right for you can put a smile on your face while keeping more money in your wallet. One look at hotel rates for many popular summer destinations and a spacious vacation rental quickly becomes the very smart alternative lodging choice.

Getting high value for reasonable rates are a big part of why so many people make vacation rentals their accommodations of choice year after year. No matter what area you're travelling to and regardless of what recreations you enjoy when you arrive, nothing beats coming home each night while away to the comforts of home, not found in your average hotel stay. I'm talking about condos and townhomes that have full kitchens, fireplaces, open and spacious living areas, big bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, and all wonderfully furnished and very comfortable.

Now that's not to say that you can't find all that in something closer to a hotel setting, because you can. Many vacation rentals are part of a bigger condominium or resort complex and also offer extras like concierge and front desk services, onsite extras like spas, saunas and fitness centers, and in some cases even shopping and restaurants. The options available to you in great summer vacation rentals are endless.

Choosing a summer vacation rental that's right for you should start with a reputable online listing site where you can view properties and compare their features and amenities to make the best choice. Websites like ABetterStay.com let you browse properties, shop prices, read reviews and, when you've found the perfect rental in your budget, book the reservation right through their site.

It's worth pointing out that some vacation rentals come a little less fully equipped than others. Some budget properties don't come stocked with linens, full kitchen supplies, etc., so it's a good idea to check the listing details just to be sure you know in advance if you need to pack anything extra.

Make sure that you pick a rental that will be centrally located to all the attractions and activities you want to enjoy and visit. If travelling to a beach resort destination such as Hawaii, find out how far your rental will be from the beach itself. Is it walking distance? Will you need to rent a car? Are there public or resort shuttles that provide service between your rental and the attractions you are interested in? How far away will you be from shopping, area nightlife, and restaurants?

As with all seasonal travel, these properties book up fast during peak travel months. Your best deals are going to be during off peak travel times and you can often get these rentals at a real bargain. Whatever you do, plan your trip as far in advance as possible. To make sure you get a reservation as well as the best rates, get started choosing a summer vacation rental that's right for you.
